Our dental hygiene department is one of the best available and can show you how to avoid ever getting a cavity again. Latest research links gum disease with several other diseases in the body. Dental hygienists help treat periodontal (gum) disease by removing tartar and plaque.
We also provide a variety of services from emergency treatment for a chipped tooth or toothache, fixing cosmetic issues which may require whitening, bleaching, or polishing, and examinations.

Dr. Gary Marks
Gary is the Principal Dentist at Gentle Dental. He has over 25 years of experience and tutors final year dental students at the Dental school. He has also volunteered his dental services overseas to treat Tibetan refugees in Kathmandu, Nepal, and inmates in a Cambodian prison. He has been president of the New Zealand Dental Association, and is currently the Community Affairs Officer.

Professor Robert Love
Robert is the specialist Endodontist and works at the Dental School. Robert does root canal work on Tuesday evening. He is also the Chairman of the Dental Council of New Zealand, who govern all Dentists, Hygienists, Therapists and Dental Technicians in NZ.

Our senior hygienist. She's worked at the practice since 2001.

Emily Worthington
Emily graduated dentistry in 2009. She worked as a hospital dentist in Nelson and Christchurch hospitals, before settling in Dunedin in 2012. She is specially interested in oral surgery but enjoys all aspects of dentistry.
Lorna Watkins-Dooley
Part-Time Dental Assistant. Lorna trained to be a Dental Assistant at Gentle Dental in 2005. She's very caring, and has a calming influence on everyone who she meets.
Vai Msuya
Dental Assistant. Vai is a valuable team member at Gentale Dental, and has a lovely disposition.
Melissa Tipler
Receptionist. Melissa used to work as a dental assistant and is very familiar with dentistry.
Erica Lee
Erica attained her Bachelor of Oral Health at Otago University and has been a therapist at Gentle Dental since January 2012. She also tutors Oral Health students at the dental school.
Lucy Barltrop
Dental Assistant. Lucy has worked as a dental assistant in Dunedin and Melbourne.
