What is a Prosthodontist?

A Prosthodontist is a dental specialist that has not only completed a 5 year undergraduate Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree, but has also completed an additional  3 year postgraduate Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (DClinDent) degree in prosthodontics. A Prosthodontist treats the more difficult dental problems such as people who have badly broken down or missing teeth. Prosthodontists treat TMD-jaw joint problems, traumatic injuries to the mouth’s structures, congenital or birth anomalies to teeth, snoring, oral cancer reconstruction and sleep disorders. This often involves using veneerscrowns, bridges, dentures or dental implants to improve both the function and look of a patient’s mouth.
