An Endodontist is a dental specialist that has completed a 5 year undergraduate Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree, and completed an additional 3 year postgraduate Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (DClinDent) degree in Endodontics.
An Endodontist (root canal specialist) deals with the cause, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases of the dental pulp. Treatment usually involves removal of the nerve and other tissue of the pulp cavity and its replacement with suitable filling material. An Endodontist will generally operate under a microscope to effectively clean and fill varying root canal morphologies. A large part of a root canal specialist’s practice is retreating failed root canal treatments.
